The Dark Knight Update

A day after Bruce Wayne toppled rival billionaire Tony Stark's 2008 box office record, the Caped Crusader continued to climb up the all-time blockbusters chart rising two spots to number 16 on Tuesday with its $9.6M gross. That put the total to date for The Dark Knight at $333.9M which puts it just a bit below the $336.5M of Spider-Man 3 which was 2007's highest-grossing film.

Tuesday marked the first time that ticket sales for the new Batman smash fell into the single-digit millions as the take dropped 54% from the corresponding day from last week. Warner Bros. is still on track to approach the $350M mark by the end of the second week of release for Knight which would be the quickest any film would ever reach that level.

The superhero behemoth is on track to watch its 17-day cume rise to roughly $390M by the end of this coming weekend. Next Tuesday, The Dark Knight may be able to crash through the $400M barrier after a mere 19 days in theaters.

Be sure to check back on Thursday for continued daily coverage of The Dark Knight's record-breaking box office run.
