Batman Begins Update

The super hero pic Batman Begins collected another $9.1M on Thursday in its second day of release dropping 40% from its opening day tally. After two days, the Christopher Nolan-directed comic book film has grossed $24.2M. That slightly exceeds the $24M Wednesday-Thursday take of the action adventure Pirates of the Caribbean during its opening week in July 2003. The Johnny Depp blockbuster's debut Friday-to-Sunday gross reached $46.6M for a five-day launch of $70.6M.

For a much-hyped super hero film debuting midweek, the Thursday hold was very respectable. Batman Begins, which skews older than Pirates, hopes to capture a large share of its target audience over the weekend when moviegoers have work and school out of the way.
